“Letterpress is so fascinating,” says Mark Barbour. “It is completely different from anything you can create in our digital world and yet it has a connection. Letterpress is dimensional: The letters and images sink into the fibers of the paper; the paper itself is tactile, usually made with cotton fibers and calling to be touched and felt between your fingers as you look upon the printed work.”. Barbour, a Sunnyvale native, is the founder and executive director of the International Printing Museum in Southern California. He first came to know letterpress printing his senior year at Fremont High School. There, he enrolled in a class at Monta Vista High School in the printing and duplication department. He describes it as a defining moment in his education and career.
