Officers bought pot from owner Balwinder Singh, 25, at Avenue Liquors on Roosevelt Avenue and then found 150 individually packaged one-gram bags of marijuana when they searched the store on Aug. 28, said Lt. John Munsey, head of San Mateo County’s drug task force. Singh was arrested as a result of the investigation. Avenue Liquors was open Thursday, but Singh didn’t immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment on his arrest. He’s out of jail on $80,000 bail and state regulators were weighing action against the store’s liquor license, Munsey said.

All eyes turned to the pyramid erected in the center of the action, watching intently as the structure split open to reveal Monday night’s main attraction — Katy Perry — who greeted the 12,500 fans in attendance with her signature tune “Roar.”. It was an opening segment worthy of Perry’s musical idol — Madonna — and certainly a glorious way to kick off the star’s sold-out two-night stand at SAP Center in San Jose. “Do not let this moment pass you by,” Perry instructed the audience.

Paz — whose colorful pop art work can be seen throughout Silicon Valley — is planning to close her eponymous gallery and retail shop in downtown Campbell at the end of the year. The reason is an old refrain I’ve heard from many a restaurant or shop owner in recent years: Her rent’s too high to renew the lease, not to mention the rising cost of permits and other government fees. It’s a big loss for Campbell Avenue, where Paz’s gallery was a natural bright spot that attracted lots of eyes, though apparently not enough dollars to stay viable. Paz, who moved to Campbell in 2008, also became heavily involved in the Downtown Campbell Business Association, and she’ll be stepping down as its president Dec. 31 as well.
