Beyonce stuck mainly to her newer material, playing more than twice as many tunes from her three most recent albums — 2011’s “4,” 2013’s “Beyonce” and this year’s “Lemonade” — then she did from her first three. That was a questionable move, resulting in too-many fan favorites — most noticeably, the No. 1 hits “Irreplaceable” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” — being left out of the mix. Then again, there were some older songs — such as the contrived “Me, Myself and I” — that she should have left out.

Luckily for visitors, the biggest raptors here are condors, but even those are substantial enough to make you keep your lunch zipped in your backpack. But it’s no wonder that the park’s carved spires, rough crags and rocks-in-fantasyland look is so entrancing: The place is a geologic gem, the result of an ancient volcano gone mad, pitched 200 miles north by a shrug of the San Andreas fault. (The tamer sections were left behind — the park has the good stuff.). The contrast between these looming monoliths of granite and the gentle roll of the surrounding hills, with their curvy creeks and moss-covered oaks, is eye pleasing indeed, particularly after an El Niño winter, when the wildflowers do a delirious dance all over the place. My girlfriend, Alice, and I headed up recently for a day hike, and Pinnacles delivered on all counts: dazzling wildflowers, lung-stirring hiking, gee-whiz views and condors on the (giant) wing.
